| Cosmetic Fillers are injectable substances
used to fill in wrinkles on the face. Collagen is the
most well known of these substances. Recently, the FDA
approved the synthetic filler, Restylane, which is a
naturally occurring sugar which is chemically cross
linked to give it long lasting effect. Restylane lasts
6-9 months and is non allergenic so that skin testing
is not required. |
| |
| HOW DOES IT WORK? |
| |
| Wrinkles are due to a loss of natural
collagen in the underlying layers of the skin due to
age and environmental factors. An injectable filler
is used to replace the lack of collagen beneath the
skin. The skin is then plumped outward and the wrinkles
in the area are reduced. |
| |
| WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT? |
| |
| The smoothing effects of the injectable
filler appear immediately, and may last from 3 months
to many years, depending upon the substance which is
used. The area may be slightly red rights after treatment,
but most patients feel comfortable returning to work
or other daily routines directly from the office. |
